Dallas based La La Land Kind Cafe landed in The Heights of Houston last year and has since become a new hotspot for many of Houston's foodies and coffee lovers. The concept of this cafe takes on the name by way of its operation which is based on kindness but that's little explanation behind its title. The main attraction being that hirees are youth who've aged out of foster care totally trumps the urban luxury aesthetic feel of the shop even with the fancy t-shirts, hats, and other small variety of locally and internet sold merchandise branded by the cafe. Owner of the cafe emphasized the importance of factors beyond the basic necessities such as housing, mentorship, and therapy for ex-foster children. After running a nonprofit to focus on those aspects and using personal discernment to pinpoint the ongoing needs of the groups beyond those, he realized the areas of lack that still persists that shouldn't be ignored. The opportunity granted to this specific group isn't one we see often as we tend to assume the best or not even consider the lives of foster children once they age out of foster care.
